Chapter 5 Question 4
Superstitious is old wives tales, folklore, bizarre beliefs, taboos, omens, lucky & unlucky things.
The superstitious action which is described by Li is that Li's niang felt ill and after the second night, a month after Nana died, Niang had a strange dream. Nana accused her and dia of not looking after her. She was complaining that her house was shabby and the roof leaked. The next morning Li's niang did a test with an egg. She got a pair of chop sticks and an egg and placed the chopsticks pointing north and called out "Niang, mother of Li Tingfang, if it was you who showed your spirit last night, please show your spirit again now!" If it was Nana's spirit the egg should continue to stand up on the pointed end. Which it did. Niang quickly got her dia to go back to the burial site and take water, incense and paper money. Niang told everyone about her dream and the children all laughed and thought she was being superstitious. Dia on the other hand said "one cannot fully believe it and yet one should not disbelieve it". The next day Niang's fever went away.

superstition is when you believe something is contacting you or trying to tell you something like when Li's mum tells them about how she falls ill and has the dreams were Na-Na tells her that she is not happy so one of her sowing friends tells her to try a test were you put an egg on some chop sticks on the pointy end and see if it stands up.

chapter five question four
Superstition is a belief based on fear and not on the laws of science. Superstition doesn’t consider the real cause and effect of what happens. Instead, superstition tells us that certain things happen because of luck or chance. Everybody believes in superstition when his Na-na dies, because she was someone who Li Cinxin could come to with his problems and worries.

Reply to question 4
Superstition is a belief that doesn't really something to believe but not believe. Lots of people believe in superstition and Li believes in superstion too. One of the example is that when Nana came to Niang's dreams, Niang tried the experiment with the egg and it worked.

A superstition is a belief or action that is not based on reason or evidence.
The superstition showed in the chapter is that his mother had a dream when she was sick and the dream was about Li's Nana and that she did not look after her when she was alive. Li's Niang told her sewing friend about her strange dream and the friend said to try a test. she tried the test and it was Nana's spirit.

Superstition is when people believe in myths, in the Asian suburbs superstition is used a lot more then any where else. What superstitious action is described by Li in this chapter?
Even though his Na-na is dead they won't burried for three days because of the tale of the old man who came back to life 3days after they thought he was dead.

Superstition is a belief that something bad may happen if you do something like walk under a ladder or break a mirror it is not scientifically proven it is just a belief. An example of Li’s family doing this is they leave there Na-na in a coffin for three days incase she comes back to life. Another superstition is they wear white for a year showing good luck and respect to their Na-na.

Re: Question Four
superstition is like fear of bad luck so if someone was 'superstitious' then that would mean that they were worried that something unlucky was about to happen. an examply of superstition is when li's na-na died, they didn't bury her for thee days because of the story of the old man and the egg.
