Summarise the story of the Old Man and The Egg

The story of the old man and the egg is about an old couple who were looked after by their only son and daughter-in-law. They were not cared for well at all and most of the time they were given leftovers to eat. But one day, someone who knew the old couple took pity on them and quietly slipped two hard boil eggs into their hands. Then they heard their daughter-in-law coming so the wife told her husband to hurry up and eat the egg, because they thought they would be accused of stealing the eggs. So the old man quickly swallowed it whole without chewing, he therefore choked and stopped breathing. The young couple bought him a cheap coffin, the wife's only treasure was a pearl necklace which had been a gift from him her husband and so she wrapped it around his neck. At midnight that day a robber dug up the grave and opened the coffin. The robber wanted to make sure the old man was dead so he punched his chest 3 times which pushed up the egg, shooting the egg out and so the old man began to breathe again, and the robber was shocked.

The robber then took the necklace just as he did that the old man opened his eyes and said “ what do you think your doing young man?” then ran off.
