The fable about the cricket is about a Chinese emperor who loved cricket. Each year, the emperor asked the governors in each state to donate their best crickets. To make the emperor happy, the govenors commanded their people to find one. Under a mountain, there was a small village and there was a small, poor family living in the village with a little son, 10 years old, called Brave Hero. The father was a hunter and they loved their boy. One day, the father came back home with his biggest catch, a beautiful cricket. He named the cricket Brave Hero, same as the name of the son. The son wanted to look after the cricket and the father said no, but eventually he let him. One day, the boy accidently let the cricket go and the rooster at home ate it. The father was so angry, he shouted at the boy and told him to never return before he finds another cricket. The next day, the father found him nearly dead on the big rock. There was a ugly cricket on his face, and he brushed it off. He placed the poor boy in the coffin, praying everyday. Then they heard the sound of the cricket, it was the same cricket they found on the boy's face, and the father was annoyed and threw it outside. When it was time to give the governors the cricket, the father didn't have any crickets and governor got very angry, so he ordered the guards to burn the house down. Just before they burned the house down, the goveners heard strong and loud sound of the cricket and the govenor thought the hunter was playing jokes with him. The father threw the cricket to the rooster and the rooster was dropped on the ground dead, and the governor was very impressed. He asked the hunter for the cricket's name, and the hunter said Brave Hero. The Brave Hero soon became the best cricket in the kingdom and didn't lose a fight. The emperor was impressed and treasured him. Back in the poor family, the boy was still breathing. the govenors gave the family lots of gold and silver, but the family was sad because such things as gold could not bring the boy back alive. One day, Brave Hero mysterously disappeared from his royal cage in the palace. On the same day, the boy in the family became healthy and alive again. the little cricket was Brave Hero's spirit and he had turned himself into a cricket to save his family.
