Question One Empty hardships and kindness

Post  William Rankin Mon Jul 25, 2011 10:42 am

Li's family lived in extreme poverty and you can tell when he says his dia was often up before five thirty in the morning and work until late which would be very hard.

he also says that his niang would have to walk twenty minutes to get to the local stream were she would wash all their clothes.

they had to use half burnt coal as well to help the fire when we could just push a button and have as much as we like so that would also have been hard for them and finding it would also be hard.

Li's family although living in poverty did have some good times like when they were running around the house and making chaos in front of there fourth brothers teacher.

their favorite time was when their dia would tell them fables or stories like the frog in the well etc.

and their favorite game that they would play every night, their version of I spy with the words in the news paper covering the walls.

Post  Harry Mon Jul 25, 2011 12:04 pm

Examples in chapter 2 that the Li family also experiences kindness and joy like when Li's niang and dia joke around when the main ingredients weren't added to the meal. Li's brothers have made there own game of "I-Spy", where there was newspapers stuck to the word and someone had to choose a word on it, and whoever found the word first would choose the next word.

Another one is that if they didn't have enough coal for the winter they had to go steal some coal or just be cold. The third one is They didn't have a doctor and if they got sick they had to be tough and fight it. Some of the kindness and joy he experienced was hearing the stories and fables at night. Another one is chinese new years eve. The third one is they created their version of i-spy.

Li's family are in big poverty and you can tell by his dia has wake up early and his Nia also have to go to work in the field to make for living. but Li's family has joy too. Li will have the chinese new year'eve with his family and on that night his Nia will get plenty of food to cool such as pig meat and some food that they won't normally get to eat. When Li try to impress his Nia he try to help his Nia cook but accidently drop the six dishes(VERY EXPENSIVE), so he told his grandma and his grandma solve the problem for him.

Some of the hardships li’s family has been though are li’s mother fainting and not being able to work for awhile and when she did she broke the basin, they don’t have enough money to replace it, all the clothes got dirty and she has to do them all over again, they have to use half burnt coal instead of new coal.

Some kind experiences they’ve had are playing games with friends, making chaos and their father telling them stories.
