Example 1) "The school we supposed to go to was about a mile from our village, so our village donated an abandoned, rundown house as a temporary classroom."

Example 2) "The house was made of mud bricks. There were two small wood-framed windows, but the thin rice paper was low, the room depressingly dark and damp."

chapter six question two
How do we know this school is very poor?
Firstly, China wasn’t that rich at that time which means schools would not have been that rich either. Secondly, many people used the school that Li goes to where it didn’t even have a spare classroom. That tells me that people tried to go in that school because it was cheap; a lot of people would not really want to go to rich school if there really was one. Most important of all, Li’s family were poor; they were incapable of sending seven children to a rich school.
The school (house), was built very poorly. They were made up of mud bricks, two small wood-framed windows, the thin rice paper pasted onto them which were broken a long time ago. The ceiling was low, the room was really dark and damp.

Ben W's question 2
This school is very poor because they are in a little town filled with peasants and they also havn't got many supplies to keep the students happy and going. The are also very small with only a few classrooms.
